Theriomorphic Linocut
I’m fascinated by theriomorphic beings in ancient art. This image was based on a relief that sits in the British Museum, a wall carving from a palace in what’s now Northern Iraq from around 883 BC. I think of it as representing the battle of Marduk and Tiamat, primal forces of chaos and order. This linocut is carved into two blocks set side-by-side. It’s Matted in black at 9” x 12”.
