St Francis and the Wolf of Gubbio Linocut
Linocut featuring Saint Francis and the Wolf of Gubbio. The Hagiographies say St. Francis of Assisi tamed a wolf terrorizing a city in Umbria by making the sign of the cross and demanding fealty to God. Not much of the story checks out for me, but I do like the idea of my favorite saint reaching out to a wolf being persecuted by townsfolk and coming up with that story to cover both of their asses. Matted in light gray @ 8”x10”.
